Every decision we make starts with data — and ends with your safety in mind.
Our program is built on surveillance — we track mosquito species and population levels before we do anything. Treatments are targeted, data-driven, and only applied where and when they're actually needed.
That means no blanket spraying. No guesswork.
Every product we use is EPA-approved and safe for people, pets, and the environment when used as directed.

They're trying to wipe out every mosquito.
The goal is management, not elimination — reducing populations to a level that meaningfully lowers disease risk for people and animals.
They just spray wherever, whenever.
Every decision is driven by surveillance data. We monitor first, then act — and we target larvae before ever considering adult spraying.
Those chemicals can't be safe.
Every product is EPA-approved, meaning it's passed rigorous safety and effectiveness testing. Following label rates isn't just best practice — it's the law.
Targeting larvae is no different than spraying adults.
Larvae are stationary — concentrated in a single water source. Adult mosquitoes are mobile and far harder to target precisely. Going after larvae first is simply smarter.
It's just spraying — there's no real science behind it.
IMM combines biological, physical, and chemical controls alongside the district's own ongoing research and the latest innovations. It's a system, not a schedule.
Our Education Specialist can visit your classroom or organization for a presentation, host a facility tour, or table at your community event.
Past programs have covered the mosquito life cycle, biology, general entomology, bite prevention, Integrated Mosquito Management, and mosquito-borne diseases. We can tailor topics to your needs, contact us in advance.
Started in 2023 with native plant kits from the Utah Pollinator Habitat Program, our habitat supports native plants, insects, and animals while serving as a teaching tool.
Open to residents in our service area for their own gardening needs. Contact us if you'd like to use it.
The Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District keeps pace with research and operations to deliver effective, efficient service to residents within its jurisdiction.
We collaborate locally, regionally, and globally to advance mosquito control and strengthen disease prevention in areas with fewer resources.
We partner with Utah high schools and universities to mentor students in the field, offering hands-on experience in fieldwork, lab work, and professional conferences that translates directly to careers or higher education.
These partnerships often produce publications shared with peers in mosquito control, public health entomology, medical entomology, and adjacent fields.
